Tools
Unity, Unreal Engine. Chosen per project rather than fixed — the engine is a decision made against a project’s platform and performance needs, not a preference carried between them.
Pen and ink, watercolour. The drawings and paintings that become surface textures. Scanned at full resolution and carried into the engine largely unchanged — the wear in the paper stays visible.
Git. Version control across every project. Devlog entries reference commits directly, so the log and the history line up.
Obsidian. The vault where devlog entries are drafted before anything is published.
On AI
AI tools appear at two points in this pipeline: drafting and formatting devlog entries from notes, and generating placeholder imagery before a project has real screenshots to show. Neither writes the design or builds the world.
The criterion is whether a tool removes friction from a repetitive, already-decided task, or whether it would be making a decision that should stay mine. Judged against that line, some widely used tools qualify and some do not. Which ones is less interesting than the line itself, so it isn’t itemised here.
